I don't think it gets more classic than stripes, leopard and pearls! I love this ultimately girly combination and how easily a statement pearl necklace can dress up ripped jeans and a tee-shirt. This necklace is so versatile - you can wear it long, a'la Coco - or knot it up like I did here.

This has been another long week in preparation for Bloggers Night Out on Feb 10th in NYC (invites coming out this weekend!) - and I could not be more excited to see one of my best college friends who is in town from NC for a double dinner date tonight, and celebrate my other friends 30th birthday all day Saturday! Cheers to a closed laptop for at least half of the weekend :) Hope yours is fab!

Mid- Winter Uniform

I'm sure your not surprised that this chambray shirt is part of my new uniform considering I wear it practically twice a week (seen here, here & here). I'm planning to pick up a few more at Old Navy this week - they have several affordable new styles (like the one from this Glitter Guide post).

I picked up this jacket on SUPER sale while in NYC - and I seriously can't take it off. It's soft, thin and fits perfectly under a winter coat. I'm also kind of in love with my new James Jeans that literally fit like a glove and feel like leggings! I love the easy combination of chambray, leather and black with a little neon accent. An ideal combination for these final cold and dreary months.

Despite last week being a short one, it was rough. I was overly exhausted and found myself completely stressed out trying to balance my full time job, freelance work and starting a company (Bloggers Night Out) which has an upcoming event. This weekend was exactly what I needed and the freezing rain/snow we had Friday night created the perfect backdrop. I spent minimal time on my laptop, enjoyed a long and leisurely dinner at my parents, finished a book and spent some time being crafty. Hoping this week is a little easier!

Drugstore Beauty: Skin Care Basics

At the end of last year I started getting very into skin care. Maybe its the fact that I'm in my late 20's and I've finally decided to invest the time and money in products that work for my skin. I consider myself to have combination skin that is often sensitive. Here is a little recap about my routine, and perhaps if you have similar skin you will find it useful!

Cleanser: I use very mild cleansers like Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser and Purpose and have been testing out the Oil of Olay Pro-X Cleansing System. I use it once a day with face wash or with water on a clean face. I got the Neutrogena Wave several months ago and now only use it when I travel- the Pro-X system is much better! If my skin continues to improve I will probably invest in the Clarisonic.
Moisturizer: My friend Renie turned me onto Vichy Thermal Water and I love to spray it on a freshly washed face and follow it with moisturizer. I alternate between Neutrogena, Target brand or Clean & Clear oil-free moisturizers for day, and Oil of Olay Night of Olay for night. I also love Josie Maran Argan Oil for dry spots ( I also put it on split ends at night!).
Anti-Aging: I just got the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Aging System and use the moisturizer on my forehead nightly and the eye cream both day & night.
Self Tanner: As a self proclaimed sunless tanner addict I'm pretty picky. L'Oreal has been my stand by brand for years, and I recently switched over to Tan Towels (for special occasions). I'm always looking for new recommendations!

I never tire of layering this chambray shirt (last seen here) and this vest (last seen here). It's so easy to throw these light pieces on for our unseasonably warm winter days lately and feel somewhat put together when going out. Alone they can also both be worn with so many different things, which makes them perfect for packing - I brought both with me to NYC this weekend!

In the Kitch: Whole Wheat Pasta & Kale

As soon as the temperatures drop, I'm constantly craving hearty comfort food. I'd much rather stay in my cozy apartment cooking then venture out into the cold. Since I attempt to eat healthy (most of the time) I've been looking for lighter recipes to get me through the winter, and this Whole Wheat Pasta & Kale dish from Martha Stewart did the trick. Like in this pizza, I used turkey bacon instead of regular and it turned out great. I also cooked the kale for about 30 minutes vs. the 10 minutes suggested.

I picked up a few turtlenecks at Target and have had a fun time styling them. There is something so classic and simple about a plain black or white turtleneck and I love the idea of dressing it up with a little faux fur. These booties were also a great Target find recently, and they are so versatile that they are the only heels I've packed in my bags for my trip to NYC tomorrow!

As you are probably aware by now, Target is one of my all time fave places to stock up on affordable treats- from beauty to clothes, shoes and home goods, I can barely leave the store with out spending $100. Finally all of their holiday decor has been put away and in it's place, a bunch of fresh, inspiring and glam designs. I already have the duvet that matches the sheets above and that chevron lamp shade is just calling my name, for only $20 I think its a must !

I had a relaxing and productive weekend. We finally put away all of our holiday decor (tear), enjoyed a night out in DC with friends, and I had a lot of Bloggers Night Out work to do for our upcoming event during NYFW, which I can't believe is right around the corner. I also had fun snapping pictures of our room for a feature on Project Gadabout later this month.
Five positive thoughts for this cold Monday morning: yoga tonight (it's been FOREVER), turkey meatloaf for dinner, a trip to NYC on Friday, a clean apartment to come home to and I'm starting week 2 of my couch to 5k training!

In the Kitch: Motorino's Brussels Sprout Pizza

One of my goals for Style Within Reach in 2012 is to include more of the things I love- mainly food, art & interior design. I thought I would start sharing recipes (again) here - would you enjoy this?

When I lived in NYC, my roommate Sarah & I loved Motorino, our neighborhood pizza spot and their Brussels Sprout Pizza was one of our faves. After a little searching I found this recipe which I adapted a little. I used a pre-made whole wheat crust (I love the dough recipe from this book - but not a weeknight), and swapped the pancetta for the turkey bacon I had on hand. The result was light and delicious, and tasted very similar to Motorino's!

A blazer and jeans is my go-to outfit when I'm attempting to look put together, but don't really feel like trying (as seen here ). I picked up this blazer at H&M for $15 after the holidays. I got this pretty beaded clutch for Christmas and can't stop using it! The bright colors and pattern are the perfect pop to the black and white. BTW- don't you love this Samantha Wills cuff? I'm seriously obsessed.

Happy 2012! I hope you rang in the new year with cheer. We enjoyed a cozy & delicious dinner at Vin 909 (I highly recommend it if you're ever in the Annapolis area) and then celebrated with friends at a bar up the street. Drugstore Beauty: Holiday Party Look

This past weekend was the kick-off to my holiday party season, and I use every opportunity I can to be festive and dress up a little bit more than usual! I love the glam look big glossy curls can add to an outfit. I think the easiest trick to achieving ringlets this size is setting your hair in hot rollers, spraying and then combing them out. Using a shimmery white eye liner to open your eyes adds something special, and I've recently fallen for L'Oreal's British Red (worn here). It's a darker shade of red than I'm used to wearing but I love it, especially when worn with a rosy blush.

We have a busy week ahead, complete with getting our tree tonight, a trip into DC for a Bloggers Night Out site visit (are you following Facebook to get updates on our event on the 14th?) and dinner date, a midnight madness shopping night in Annapolis and I'm headed to NYC on Friday!! Hello! I'm here with an unusual weekend post! Earlier this week I was selected to participate in DailyBuzz Style's 9x9 challenge. Nine bloggers were picked to shop for, style & blog about POLKA DOTS all in 9 hours. I couldn't have been more excited about the challenge, as I've been slowly growing my closet collection of spotted pieces. I love the idea of mixing prints (as exhibited here ), and found this skirt at Forever21 in the same colors as a vintage blouse I already owned.

PS- I'm also debuting my shockingly different new hair style. As my friend Jess pointed out, this is the 1st time in 10 years that I've changed my look so drastically. I'm still getting used to it - it's a lot shorter than I was planning, and the dye is semi-perm so it will start to fade and look a little more natural soon I hope. Happy friday!! I'm enjoying a short day in the office followed by a few hours of Bloggers Night Out work. I am also FINALLY getting my hair done- though I still don't know what to do. I usually go a little darker in the fall, and love all the blunt styles lately.

Saturday I have ambitious plans of making a big breakfast and then heading to Ikea & Trader Joe's (in NOVA so we can stock up on wine for the holidays!). We are preparing for a pre-Thanksgiving cocktail party at our place next week, followed by the big day with the fam, and then a college friend's wedding in New Jersey. Next time I wear these pants I should probably consider ironing them - but here you have it anyways. I have tried to style these a few different ways and find they look best when paired with an equally billowy blouse. I love this hunter green color and find it pairs perfectly with leopard and bright lips & nails! Last week I attended an event with Eddie Bauer in DC, where local fashion bloggers had the opportunity to style looks from their fall collection. While I was a little hesitant at first about how their clothes would mesh with my own personal style - I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised! Eddie Bauer has really stepped up the game with their clothing. Flannel plaid button ups, cozy sweater vests, and fashion forward leather jackets all make for the perfect fall outfit. Another easy way to make your work attire slightly fashion forward is to mix subtle prints - a trend that has managed to make its way into my every day wardrobe. I got this skirt last year - and can't but help to be excited that the silk pattern really resembles the current J.Crew fabric everyone loves. Last year I purchased (and looooved) a faux fur stole almost identical to the one above - I wore it endlessly and was so sad when I lost it in NYC during fashion week in February. I wear a variation of this outfit practically once a week to work. If I'm not wearing this leopard maxi dress as a skirt, I wear it under a blazer or cardigan. It's entirely comfortable, a little fashion forward (for my office) and still feels professional. I try to limit my accessories at the office especially when paired with a bold pattern and kept it simple with a gold chain. I enjoyed a relaxing fall weekend, complete with a dinner date, lazy naps, thrift store shopping and football "watching". This is my favorite time of the year and I so look forward to shifting my wardrobe this week to reflect the chill in the air!

Aside from a recap of Blogger's Night Out this is my final post on NYFW! I can't wait to get back into my routine, which is about to change when my boyfriend moves in next week! This weekend I am putting away all of my summer wardrobe and trying to make a little room for him in my tiny apartment! Hope it's a great one !

It's been a while since I shared some of my latest Drugstore Beauty favorites! Lately I've been a fan of dramatic eyeliner and this ELF pen is so easy to apply and lasts all day (it's also only $1) and looks fantastic when paired with a hot pink lip. As I recently shared on Glitter Guide - moody and dramatic nails are my current favorite look and I've long been a fan of Revlon polish. This L'oreal Magic Perfecting Base seriously makes your skin look flawless and I like to spritz Vichy water on my face right before I apply it - I wore it non-stop while I was in NYC!

The MaveNYC was gracious enough to host all 6 of the Blogger's Night Out team during our stay in NYC ! The modern boutique hotel is conveniently located directly across the street from our venue for the event (Pranna) so it worked out perfectly! I can't say enough kind words about the staff and their helpfulness, the convienent mid-town location and the amazingly comfortable beds! Lynzy was my fantastic roommate and took these pictures! PS- I also must admit that I stole this outfit idea from the Maryisa who stopped by my Accessorize event on FNO. The beautiful swimwear designer looked so chic in her LBD and denim shirt I knew I had to recreate a similar look!
